The Ironbreaker, Upscaled
Posted by Staff in Dev Diary on Monday, 12 October 2026
The original textures were made for the screens of 2008. We wanted to know how far they can be pushed without repainting a single one.
The test
We took the Dwarf Ironbreaker, one of the most detailed characters in the game, and ran his textures through an upscaler at four times their size, then put him back in the remaster to compare.
What we found
Up close the difference is clear: the beard, the runes and the gromril edges are sharper. We then tried the same on the Swordmaster's face and sword. At the normal play distance, though, before and after look almost the same. Upscaling alone does not make the game read better where you actually play, so it stays an option for close-ups and the character screen.
